Our first stop on exploring Bodrum Peninsula is the Bardakci bay. This exquisite locality is the closest bay to the center of Bodrum. It's located on the west side of the Bodrum on your way to Gumbet.
This bay is known for its sandy beaches, warm waters and exclusive hotels.
Bardakci is walking distance from Bodrum. It is less then a kilometer away. You can also go there by boats leaving main harbor every 20 minutes.
There were clean water fountains which supplied the town with drinking water. For this reason the area was named Bardakci, which stands for water jar in Turkish.
If you are staying in Bakdakci, the night life is limited to hotel entertainment, however, Bodrum is in close proximatety.
The tale of Salmakis - Hermaphroditus and Salmacis
Hermaphroditus born an outstandingly handsome boy was named after his parents Hermes and Aphrodite .Hermaphroditus was brought up by a nymph on mountain Ida in Phrygia. When he was 15 years old , he became bored of his environment and travelled to the cities of Lycia and Caria. In Bardakci, he discovered a lovely clear pool of water surrounded by green grass, where he came across Salmacis the water nymph.
She was overwhelmed with lust for Hermaphroditus, and tried to seduce him, but she was denied. When Hermaphroditus thought she was away, he unclothed and went into the pool. Salmacis jumped out from behind a tree and into the pool. She had wrapped herself round Hermaphroditus, forcibly kissing him and thrusting him to her breast. Although he fought back, she cried out to the gods that they should never be separated. Her will was awarded, and their bodies became an intersex.
